NAMM 2020: Aston dials up the rock ’n’ roll with a limited-edition Origin Black Bundle
Only 2000 sets of the Origin Black Bundle will be available. Apart from the rock ’n’ roll aesthetic, the Origin – which we gave a 10/10 in our review – and Swiftshield remain unchanged. Here’s a quick overview of both products:
The Origin is a fixed cardioid, large-diaphragm condenser with a 20Hz – 20kHz frequency response range. It was one of the British manufacturer’s first products to hit the market, and has won multiple awards since. It’s touted to be versatile enough to use with any instrument – we were pleasantly surprised with the results of testing with vocals, an electric guitar and a grand piano.
It features Aston’s signature wave-form spring head, designed to protect the mic’s capsule as well as offer off-axis rejection. The latter helps eliminate unwanted artefacts from your recordings.
Other highlights include a mesh-knit pop filter built into the wave-form head, a direct to stand mounting system and top-of-the-line PCB and components.
While the Origin’s built-in pop filter and internal shock mounting system provide an unprecedented standard of performance, the Swiftshield takes the combo to another level. The Swift shock mount, according to Aston is designed to show off the microphone, and is touted as “the fastest mic mounting system in the world”. The Shield features an intuitive “clip on and off” design and delivers excellent plosive control without impeding the tone of your recordings.
In other news, Aston Microphones recently picked up a NAMM TEC award in the “Microphones – Sound Reinforcement” category for its Stealth microphone. More on that at tecawards.org.
The Origin Black Bundle is available for £259 / €299 / $369. More information at astonmics.com.
