SoundCloud’s new update lets you upload audio from your phone

After securing a $75 million investment from SiriusXM Holdings last week, SoundCloud has now announced that it will be fulfilling a frequent request from users. From today, iOS users of the app can upload tracks to the platform straight from their iPhone. The Android version of the app will have the ability to do this too, but the company says it’s “coming soon, so keep checking back”.

Uploading tracks seems easy enough; an upload icon is housed in the corner of the home screen which opens up available folders on your phone. You can select any audio file, including FLAC, WAV, ALAC, AIFF. You can include metadata, or add your artwork, title, genres and description within the app, and decide whether you want the track to be public or private.

You can then share the track to Instagram Stories, grab a private link to show your friends or label without opening up your laptop. “If your EP just passed the car test with your friends or you got back your mixed & mastered track while running errands – now you don’t have to wait to share your work with the world”, SoundCloud says of the update.
